The Oregon Timber Trail Alliance is a 501c3 non-profit, which means we have a volunteer board that makes sure the work of running a non-profit gets done. Every two years board members roll off and we welcome our new recruits. This year we’re welcoming eight fantastic new board members. Take a minute to get to know them a bit. Check out their bios and learn about what inspires them to volunteer to bring the Oregon Timber Trail into the future. As always, we’re dedicated to our four tenets, which are Stewardship, Community, Education, and Experience. We’ll be gathering soon to formulate plans for more stewardship and educational events, and finding innovative new ways to build community and improve the experience of riding the Oregon Timber Trail for everyone. Get to know the OTTA’s newest board members…
Chip Andrus
Chip Andrus of Hood River gets his thrills watching folks finish the OTT from his front porch. He's a fan of long distance racing and touring and hopes to get a few more under his belt soon. He once had a career in restoring salmon habitat but has now moved up in the world and fixes bikes for kids in his spare time.
Heather Rose
Heather Rose is an educator and avid bikepacker who finds herself by getting lost in the wild. She splits her time between Oakridge, Oregon and Santa Barbara, CA. Heather believes that the original Timber Trail can be maintained, while also increasing its scope in terms of accessibility, ride options, inclusivity, and mutual support between trail towns and the OTTA.
Mark Shafer
We just featured Mark’s fundraising ride for ovarian cancer. Mark retired from the financial services industry adding five more days to his weekends! He is an outdoor enthusiast who has spent decades exploring Oregon. The OTT is a great way to connect Oregon’s diverse landscapes!
JoAnna Woodruff
JoAnna lives in Ashland. She has lived and biked in lots of cool places out west. JoAnna loves mountain biking and bikepacking and cares a lot about trail stewardship. She teaches Middle School English Language Arts and Social Studies, and has coached NICA teams in Grand Junction, CO and Driggs, ID.
Wayne Mackey
Wayne is a bike mechanic, EMT, professional and volunteer trail builder, and budding Sawyer. Love of the outdoors brought Wayne to the OTT, their stewardship events, and the idea of riding the trail one day. Born in Oregon, and based out of Reno, Wayne is always trying to find a new reason to head up and explore more of Oregon.
Amy Thomas
Amy is an adventure cyclist, and bikepacker Her long-distance bikepacking started with the Southern Tier of the Oregon Timber Trail. Amy is a musician by training and devotes her free time to volunteer work with the homeless, fine arts organizations, captaining her tennis team, and exploring the Northwest and the world with her husband.
Steve Jansen
Steve is an educational advocate focused on building school community. His first “mountain” bike was a Banna Seat Huffy with a few BMX parts. Steve has settled into Sisters, Oregon as home after long stints in Wyoming and Chile.
David Armstrong
David first rode the OTT in 2018 and has returned to the trail every year since. Professionally, he works with organizations to build a strategy and deliver on it. Personally, he is passionate about developing new backcountry experiences and ensuring the vitality of the communities that support those backcountry experiences.
