Couldn’t join the crowd at Hopworks Urban Brewery last week? Check out the films we watched below, and see you next month on March 20th for a series of films to get you stoked.

The mountain bike industry seems to be ignoring a huge population of people, and a bigger population of potential riders. Every time I ride, I see young people, old people, and everyone in between, but the mountain bike industry seems to be ignoring most of us.

On childhood trips to Gettysburg, historian Alan Spears walked the fields of Pickett’s charge and first visualized the violence and unexpected heroism of the war to end slavery. Alan learned how our historic sites can reveal a more inclusive version of the complex story of America. He tells of Martin Luther King’s campaign to end segregation in Birmingham and asks us, at a time of rising intolerance, to heed the lessons of the tragic bombing at the 16th Street Baptist Church. On Common Ground tells the authentic stories of individuals whose lives have been shaped by our public lands. Taken together, these stories remind us of all that we stand to lose if we sell, pollute, privatize or otherwise destroy the literal common ground we share as Americans. As go our public lands, so goes our democracy. Today, both stand imperiled. Visit www.oncommonground.land to find out you can help protect this shared inheritance. #oncommonground

In this third installment of a series focused on the process and passion behind the legendary Trans Provence race, Seb Kemp (narration) and Ash Smith focus on a particular trail.

The Trans Sierra Norte is a multi-day enduro mountain bike race that rips through the Oaxacan highlands offering more than 3,000 feet of elevation gain/loss. The trails are thousands of years old and were predominately used to connect local villages and exchange goods, further making the bike event a cultural rarity. Especially since it finishes in Oaxaca City right about the time the fireworks are blasting off for the Day of the Dead fiesta.

Three childhood friends set out for the far western corner of Mongolia to combine mountain biking and packrafting in a self-supported adventure into the unknown. Never having attempted a mountain bike to packraft link-up, they decided it was a great idea to travel to one of the most remote and sparsely populated places in the world to try it out. The goal was to traverse the Mongolian Altai, a remote range of high glaciated peaks with silt-laden rivers draining from their heights. The only inhabitants of the region are Kazakh nomads, the last people on earth who continue the tradition of hunting with golden eagles. Ancient standing stones carved over the millennia stand guard over the landscape. Twelve days in the wilderness, riding over high passes loaded with gear, surviving raging whitewater, drinking fermented mare’s milk, and battling the elements, this was not an adventure these young lads would soon forget. After 160 combat missions, Garett Reppenhagen returned home from the Iraq War with profound PTSD. Haunted by his experiences as a Brigade sniper, he found solitude and healing in the Colorado Rockies. He now devotes his life to protecting this shared inheritance for all Americans. High in the Himalayan hinterlands of southwest China, three majestic mountains soar above sprawling floodplains that spill into the country’s sweltering lowlands. Over the centuries, various Dalai Lamas have ordained these towering peaks as sacred, and the Tibetan people who inhabit this isolated region revere them as granite gods. A pilgrimage around the base of these 19,000-foot-high giants is considered a holy undertaking, and those lucky enough to finish this arduous circuit—known as the ‘Yading Kora’—hope the effort will purify a lifetime of negative karma. Inspired by this time-honored rite of passage, three adventurers set out to complete this kora on mountain bikes, carrying everything they need to survive the 10-day mission themselves. Who grows your coffee? All The Places is a travel film series exploring our relationship with food, culture, sport and the environment. Each bikepacking trip maps out a new travel route through a region of global significance – whether it produces coffee, whiskey, music, tea, apparel, world class athletes, palm oil, or centenarians. Colombia is world class in two things, coffee and cycling. In episode one, CocoraVelo, we look at these two important and very well-acquainted industries and as they converge in a symbiosis unlike anywhere else in the world. This is the Napa Valley of coffee.
