Springwater School is awarded Riding for Focus grant

Congrats to our partners at Springwater School for being awarded the Riding for Focus grant! They are the first and only school in Oregon to receive the grant. Watch their application video below, as well as a video about the Riding for Focus program. You may recall they did an in-depth course on the natural and cultural history of the Oregon Timber Trail last spring as well as contributed a great deal to our digital route guide.

This grant means the school will receive a fleet of mountain bikes and helmets, a starter maintenance kit, a program curriculum, a community partnership to help build bikes, and training and support. This is an enormous leap towards their goal of building an Oregon Timber Trail themed pumptrack on the school grounds!

Their most pressing need right now is to build a shed to store all the shiny new bikes, so if you'd like to help contact Katie@springwaterschool.com

"Riding for Focus" is a unique program that combines fitness with academics, clinical test results show that students get fit and perform better in school. The Specialized Foundation started initial research in 2012 that revealed: Over a one-month period, all of the participants rode outdoors for 30 minutes, five days-per-week, hitting target heart rate for 20 minutes / day before school.
