Hood Tier Stewardship #2

June 19
Hood River, OR
Mount Hood National Forest

PRESENTED BY:

We’ve all heard of Post Canyon, but a little farther up the mountain are a few old trails along Waucoma Ridge that skirt the Wilderness. Help us restore this important connection.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - That's right, we just need a smile, a pair of gloves, and a good attitude from you. Our goals for this event will be focused primarily on clearing undergrowth and deadfall along the trail corridor.

SCHEDULE - We plan on putting in a full day from 9am to 4pm.

GETTING THERE - We will stage and park at Rainy Lake Campground. Driving directions from Portland are here, which takes about 2 hours.

LOGISTICS - It’s early summer at 4,000’—the weather could be hot or chilly. Look at the forecast and come prepared. Drink plenty of water, take breaks, and wear sunscreen. There is spotty cell service.

MEALS - Due to COVID we’re unable to provide food and drink at this event.

YOU SHOULD BRING - During the work day Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to work on public lands; this includes a 6-point suspension helmet (some loaners provided), eye protection, gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirt, and sturdy shoes/boots. Bring a daypack with water, snacks, mosquito repellant, and sunscreen.

COVID PRECAUTIONS - We will follow all guidelines issued by county, state, or federal agencies. This may mean cancelling the event entirely or some/all of the following.

  • Limit size of event

  • No shared meals, everyone on their own for food

  • Social distance mandate: masks carried on person at all times, & wearing whenever unable to maintain social distance of 6’.

  • Clean & sanitize hands frequently

  • Clean & sanitize tools whenever sharing & at close of each day

  • We will send updates to registered volunteers as the date approaches

This is going to be a fun event unearthing an old trail in Hood River’s backyard. We're excited and grateful that you're spending a valuable summer weekend day giving back to our public lands. On behalf of the Oregon Timber Trail Alliance a huge thanks goes out to everyone lending a hand at this stewardship event.
